West Park Hall &
Ballroom
After endless rooms and lodges, we finally found the hall, which plays host to one of the most famous images on the internet.
The first thing which is immediately apparent on entering the hall is the obvious parallels to the hall at Hellingly Lunatic Asylum. Although west Park was built by Mr.Clifford rather that Mr. Hine, the hall is remarkably similar.
Sadly, the hall was subject to a devastating arson attack in 2006, but is no less fascinating because of it. The remaining shell and rusting metalwork present a sort of humbling beauty and a sort of sadness, whilst at the same time still remaining impressive and very elegant.
I make no apology for the size of the image files on this page! Go and make yourself a cup of tea, come back when it has finished loading and enjoy it as we intended!

ABOVE & LEFT: The Stage: The finished panorama is shown above, but in this instance I have opted to show the photos which make up the final shot as well, because they collectively show thearea under the stage which is not visible in the final shot because the grey areas are trimmed out vertically and any dfetail beyond these boundaries is cropped. It is interesting to note that the girders of the stage Do actually drop to the front of the stage and it is not a trick of the camera.
