Cane Hill Lunatic Asylum
The Last Gasp
Whilst on our recent trek out to West Park Lunatic Asylum, we discovered that we were only 10 minutes down the road from one of the most famous Lunatic Asylums ever... Cane Hill.
Sadly, "The Cane" has been undergoing demolition since February and the only bits of this awesome place left standing are the Water Tower, the Chapel and the Main Facade, only because they are listed buildings and cannot be pulled down.
It was quite sad to see the old place in such a sorry state and I'm not afraid to say that it was quite an emotional visit, but I'm glad I managed to pay my last respects before it disappeared forever or became part of characterless and androgenous housing estate...
